A Tale of Two Cities has been adapted to film five times in

It was mentioned in Star Trek II: the Wrath of Khan. Spock sacrifices himself like Sydney Carton as he saves the Enterprise from destruction. Kirk is given a copy of this book and says the opening and closing lines of the book in the first and last scenes respectively. Much of the plot line of Wrath of Khan comes from parts of A Tale of Two Cities

The film History of the World Part I, the french revolution scene parodies the plot of A Tale of Two Cities. It includes a hilariously cruel aristocracy, a female revolutionary leader, and two characters closely resembling each other (the king of France and the "piss boy" manservant).


A Tale of Two Cities has had several books with "what if" scenarios in which Sydney Carton does not die.
The novel A Far Better Rest is a retelling of A Tale of Two Cities in the point of view of Carton.
